Complex Roof Replacement in Fairview, TN
A Fairview homeowner called us after a hail storm. The storm hadn't done much damage, but his roof was getting old and had started to leak. It also had so many hips and ridges that metal wasn't a realistic option. Here's how our crew replaced it with CertainTeed Landmark shingles, cut and sealed at every angle.

An Honest Inspection After a Hail Storm
The homeowner reached out after a hail storm passed over his home. Our rep inspected the roof and didn't find any significant hail damage, and he told the homeowner that directly instead of pushing an insurance claim.
The storm wasn't the real issue. The roof was getting old, and it had recently started leaking. Leaks on an aging roof usually get worse over time, so the homeowner felt it was time to replace it rather than keep patching it. We agreed.
What the Inspection Found
- ✓No significant hail damageWe gave the homeowner a straight answer, even though it meant no insurance claim.
- !An aging roofThe existing roof was nearing the end of its service life.
- !Recent leaksWater had already started getting into the home.
Why Shingles Beat Metal on This Roof
The homeowner first thought about a metal roof. We install metal roofs too, and they're a great choice on the right house. This house wasn't one of them. The roof has many hips and ridges meeting at different angles, and each one would have needed custom-cut panels plus extra trim and flashing. With that many transitions, every seam becomes a possible leak point. Our rep explained that a metal install on this roof would be nearly impossible to do well.
Architectural shingles are much better suited to a complex roof. Each shingle can be cut to fit a hip or valley, and matching hip and ridge caps finish every roof line cleanly. Our rep recommended shingles and gave the homeowner a cash estimate.
Why CertainTeed Landmark Is a Good Fit for Fairview
Middle Tennessee gets strong spring thunderstorms, occasional hail, high winds, and long, humid summers. Landmark is a dual-layer architectural shingle, heavier and more durable than basic 3-tab shingles, and it's built to handle that kind of weather.
Storm Winds
110 mph wind warrantyA 15-year, 110 mph wind-resistance limited warranty, made for severe thunderstorm season.
Hail Impacts
UL 2218 Class 3Impact-resistance rated, so it can hold up better to the hail storms that move through the area.
Humid Summers
25-year StreakFighter®Algae resistance that helps prevent the dark streaks humidity leaves on shaded roofs.
Long-Term Protection
Lifetime limited warrantyA transferable lifetime limited warranty with 10-year SureStart™ protection, plus a UL Class A fire rating.
Why Pewter? Pewter is a blended gray that looks clean and even from the street. On a roof with this many planes, Landmark's dual-layer shadow lines catch the light differently on each face, so every hip and ridge stands out. It's a big part of why the finished roof looks so sharp.
Installation: Careful Work at Every Angle
This roof was a challenge for our crew, and we were confident going in. On a roof with this many hips, ridges and valleys, there are far more cuts, transitions and seams than on a typical roof, and each one has to be done right to keep water out.
Valleys carry the most water on any roof, and hips and ridges are where the wind hits hardest. That's why we give those areas the most attention.
What Went Into This Roof
- Full tear-off down to the roof deck
- Decking inspected, with any damaged boards replaced
- Ice & water shield sealed into the valleys
- Synthetic underlayment across the roof deck
- New pipe boots and flashing at roof penetrations
- Matching CertainTeed hip & ridge caps on every roof line
- Magnetic nail sweep of the yard and driveway at cleanup

The Result: A Roof Built for Its Shape
The finished roof turned out beautifully. With so many roof lines, the design shows off the Pewter color from every side, and the homeowner no longer has to worry about leaks.
He was pleased with the work and has since referred other homeowners to us. We think that's the best review a roofer can get.
No matter how complex a roof is, our crew can install it the right way.
